ABOUT US
The Associazione
Italiana per la Terminologia (Ass.I.Term) is a
scientific non-profit association founded in Rome in 1991 with the aim
of
connecting different scientific areas interested in the study and the
dissemination of sectorial and special languages: public
administration,
universities, research centers, publishing industry, high schools for
interpreters and translators, and documentalists. Ass.I.Term
intends to:
·
promote
technical and scientific information in Italian through the enhancement
of
terminology and sectorial and special languages;
·
facilitate
scientific and professional relationships among Italian terminologists,
who participate, support or organize conferences, training sessions or
meetings, both in Italy and abroad;
·
promote
the enrichment of scientific and technical Italian
terminology, and
the
collection of related information and knowledge;
·
promote
the dissemination and coordination of activities related to scientific
and
technical terminology;
·
support education and
training in the field of terminology production and
management, also
with the assignment of grants and scholarships;
·
contribute
to the achievement of the association's mission through the cooperation
with
national and international institutions.
The International
Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO) is an
international association aimed at studying theoretical, methodological
and
experimental aspects of knowledge organization. It includes
all the
semantic
approaches to information (classification schemes, thesauri,
subject
headings, terminology, taxonomies, ontologies and knowledge
representation
languages) and their application to documentation, research, work
organization
and society in general. ISKO operates in many countries
worldwide.
The
Italian section was founded in 2004.
The Documentation
Laboratory (LabDoc), which
was
created on April 23rd, 1996 as a research unit
belonging to the
Department of Linguistics at the University of Calabria, brings
together all
the expertise in the areas of archival and documentation studies at the
University. It is considered a national reference centre for research
and
consultancy in the fields of documentation organization and management,
of
indexing and classification systems, and of knowledge and content
management,
obtaining the recognition of Unesco as an accredited center and the
assignment
of significant commissions by both the public and private sectors. In
the
abovementioned areas, the lab promotes and runs post-diploma and
post-graduate
training courses, as well as technology transfer for Public
Administrations.
The LabDoc houses the Organizational Support Unit of the Institute of
